The agricultural industry is experiencing somewhat of a renaissance thanks to people wanting to eat healthier through organic foods and fresh ingredients. However, agriculture is far more than just planting vegetables and fruits and eating fresh. There are plenty of emerging trends that’ll help you turn a passion for farming into a unique little agricultural business with a lot of potential for growth.

1. Producing jams and jellies

One of the problems with mass-producing fruits and vegetables is that you’re rarely ever going to sell all of your stock. Much of it will be wasted because people prefer cosmetically appealing fruits and vegetables, and many companies have started to sell these as “ugly produce” for a slightly lower price. One excellent way to make use of the produce that would typically be difficult to sell or even less profitable is to turn it into jams, jellies and other edible products that are fruit-based. By infusing these jams with different kinds of ingredients and ensuring that they’re organic and natural, you can create a unique little business with a huge audience.

2. The growing microgreens trend

Microgreens are nutritionally-charged miniature versions of existing greens that are great for garnishes, salads and even used in sauces. They’re packed with concentrated nutrients and are incredibly popular nowadays. Thanks to websites like Microgreens Farmer, it’s possible to start up your very own microgreens farm at home for the purpose of starting up a business or even for personal use. It’s a brilliant way to capitalize on both the microgreens industry and your passion for agriculture but on a much smaller scale that can be achieved in your home.

3. Agricultural rental business

While it might seem like a lot of work (and also involve a lot of monetary investment!) a rental business is a fantastic way to capitalize on the growing agricultural industry. Many people need tools, large vehicles and occasionally even animals to start up their agricultural businesses. Providing them with a rental service is a great way to help start up more business in the industry while also profiting if you have the capital to get started. It requires a lot of effort and you’ll likely need to partner with others in the agricultural industry to take advantage of this opportunity, but it’s a great way to express your agricultural passion and turn it into a viable business idea.

4. Entertainment options

If you already own a farm or have plans to start one, then keep in mind that there are always going to be profitable ways to turn your farm into something entertaining. For instance, if you have docile animals on your farm then starting a petting zoo for kids is a great option, and if you own a large plot of unused land then using it as a picnic or camping area can be a profitable option.

As you can see, there are many fantastic agricultural ideas that you can use to help you start a business. Whether it’s microgreens, agricultural entertainment or producing signature jams, there’s something for everyone in the agricultural world.
