Creating your very own zen garden is an ideal way to reduce stress, improve your focus, and enjoy a better sense of wellbeing. This post will help you to learn more about zen gardens and creating your own so that you can reap the benefits.

Zen gardens, also sometimes called Japanese rock gardens, appeal to those who like to rake sand and enjoy rock gardens. A zen garden is not the right style of garden for everybody, but it can be a fantastic way to enjoy your space better if you find this sort of thing relaxing.

Zen gardens emphasize the principles of naturalness (Shizen), simplicity (Kanso), and austerity (koko). In the sixth century, Zen Buddhist monks created the first zen gardens to aid in meditation.

If you love the look of zen gardens but you want to add your own elements – flowers for instance, then feel free. This post is will also share some ideas to help you create a tranquil garden where you will love to spend time.

Adding Rocks And Sand

Rocks and sand, or gravel, are one of the main components of most zen gardens. You can easily add a bit of zen to your own garden by creating a spot for your sand and adding in larger rocks where you please.

A small hoe can be used to move the sand around from time to time, giving it a ripple or a zigzag appearance. The ocean is extremely relaxing, so giving the sand a wavey, ocean vibe is a great start.

Creating Pathways

Having paths to walk through and admire your plants is another component of a zen garden. DIY stepping stones can be used to create the look easily. Moss and greenery are also a good addition. You don’t even have to do it all at once, as it’s something you can do over time. If you’re not sure how to begin creating pathways from scratch, it could be a good idea to look for landscaping services. They will be able to help you design your ideal garden, while keeping it functional.

Adding A Bench

A bench where you can sit, relax, and meditate is another popular component of a zen garden. Pagoda lanterns and other elements will both beautify your space and make it the perfect place for relaxing. One thing you should really focus on, though, is attempting to keep the space simple and uncluttered. You can break the rules and pretty much add anything you want, but the idea of zen is that it’s supposed to be clean and inspire feelings of clarity.

Should You Add Color?

Ideally, you won’t add too much color when creating your zen garden. However, a little is fine.

Peacefully colored perennials and maybe some white mixed in with them can give off a relaxing vibe. A Japanese cherry tree may not be possible for everybody, but if you can add one they really do look great and bring a zen effect to the space.
